Common questions.
Quick answers about vinyl flooring in Cape Town.
What's the difference between LVT and SPC vinyl flooring?
LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) is a flexible, multi-layer vinyl plank or tile, prized for comfort and design realism. SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) has a rigid mineral core that's even more dimensionally stable and dent-resistant — ideal for areas with temperature swings or heavy furniture. Both are 100% waterproof; SPC is generally the more robust choice for commercial and high-traffic spaces.
Is vinyl flooring waterproof?
Yes — modern LVT, SPC and sheet vinyl are fully waterproof, making them ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, laundries and entryways.
How long does vinyl flooring last?
With professional installation and proper subfloor preparation, quality vinyl flooring typically lasts 15–25 years in residential settings, and 10–20 years in commercial environments.
Can vinyl flooring be installed over existing tiles?
In many cases, yes — provided the existing tiles are sound, level and properly prepared. We assess the subfloor on every site visit and recommend the right approach.
What is vinyl flooring?
Vinyl flooring is a multi-layer synthetic floor covering made from PVC. Modern vinyl is sold as LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile / plank), SPC (rigid Stone Plastic Composite click planks) or sheet vinyl. All three are waterproof, hard-wearing and available in realistic wood, stone and contemporary finishes.
How is vinyl flooring installed?
It depends on the product. Click-system LVT and SPC float over a prepared subfloor with an underlay. Glue-down LVT is bonded directly to a flat, primed subfloor. Sheet vinyl is fully adhered. We handle subfloor prep, levelling, installation and finishing trims as a single service.
How do you clean vinyl plank flooring?
Sweep or vacuum regularly, then damp-mop with warm water and a pH-neutral floor cleaner. Avoid steam mops, abrasive scrubbers, bleach or wax-based polishes — they can damage the wear layer. Wipe spills promptly and use felt pads under furniture.
How durable is vinyl flooring?
Quality vinyl is very durable — the wear layer resists scratches, dents and stains, and the surface is fully waterproof. Commercial-grade vinyl handles heavy foot traffic in retail and office settings; residential ranges last 15–25 years with normal use.
Can vinyl flooring be used in a bathroom?
Yes — vinyl is an excellent bathroom floor. LVT, SPC and sheet vinyl are 100% waterproof, warm underfoot and quieter than tile. We pay particular attention to perimeter sealing and transitions around showers and baths.
Can vinyl flooring be used outdoors?
No — standard vinyl flooring isn't designed for outdoor use. UV exposure and temperature swings cause expansion, fading and adhesive failure. For covered patios we recommend tiling or a purpose-made outdoor product.
